Virginia Tech forward J.T. Thompson will undergo surgery on Friday for an inguinal hernia and will be sidelined for four to six weeks, according to the Virginia Tech Sports Information Department.
As a freshman last season, Thompson averaged 5.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. Jeff Allen, Lewis Witcher, and Cheik Diakite make up the three other players that were projected to figure most heavily into the Tech frontcourt heading into Friday's season opener against Gardner-Webb at Cassell Coliseum.
