Student stabbed on Main Street
A Virginia Tech student was stabbed and robbed last night in an alley between North Main Street and Progress Street.
The student told the police that he had been approached by a single suspect who demanded money from him while walking in the alley. He was stabbed once in the abdomen when he refused to give money.
The suspect then fled toward Progress Street. He is described as a white man between the ages of 20 and 30, of medium build. He was said to be wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and light colored pants.
The student was stabbed just before 7 p.m. and he was treated and released from a local hospital. Police ask that anyone with information of the incident call Blacksburg Police at 540-961-1150.
Hokies Thank the World set for November 17
"Hokies Thank the World" is an effort to get students to congregate on the Drillfield and spell out a message of thanks to the world in recognition of the global support and love for the Virginia Tech community following the events of April 16. It will take place November 17, the morning of the Virginia Tech v. Miami game.
The event will last from 10:35am until approximately 11:12am and will be recorded by ground, aerial, and satellite imagery and will be shared with the world through www.HokiesThankTheWorld.org. It will take place regardless of the weather and all are welcome to participate.
Dunlevy, Adibi are semifinalists for award
Senior linebacker Xavier Adibi was named as a semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik award, given to the country's best defensive player. Adibi is one of 15 defensive players across the country to make the list. The winner will be announced Dec. 6. Adibi has 75 tackles, 8.5 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks, and an interception in nine games this season. The
Senior place kicker Jud Dunlevy was named as a semifinalist for the Lou Groza award, awarded annually to college football's best kicker. Dunlevy is one of 20 kickers nationwide, and one of six from the ACC to be named a semifinalist. The winner of the award will be announced Dec. 6. Dunlevy is 13-15 on field goals and 27-28 on extra point attempts this season.
