The Foxridge Apartment complex,
located approximately six miles from campus and accessible by the Hethwood
Blacksburg Transit bus, has been voted as the best deal in off-campus housing
by Virginia Tech students.
The 1728-unit complex is serviced by a
full staff of workers who are in charge of 24-hour home maintenance and on-site
assistance, as well as teams who complete custodial duties, landscaping and
trash pick-up and management officers.
Even the owner of HHHunt, the company
that owns Foxridge and Hethwood as well as complexes in North and South
Carolina, Maryland, Virginia and Tennessee drops in on a daily basis to oversee
the property.
Rooms in Collegiate Square, a segment
of Foxridge occupied by undergraduate students, have varied occupancies of
one-, two- and four-bedroom apartments with or without dens, as well as
three-bedroom apartments. Sizes and prices range from 725 square feet for a
single bedroom apartment without a den at $609 a month, to 1,860 square feet
for a four-bedroom apartment and a rent of $1,469 per month. The security
deposit per roommate is $100.
“I think that one of the best things
about living in Foxridge is that the utilities are included in the monthly
rate,” said assistant property manager and director of marketing for Foxridge
and Hethwood apartment homes, Mendy Sink. “Students can get heat, hot and cold
water, garbage and sewage, which make budgeting for the year easier. There is
no fluctuation in fees, so they will have a better idea of monthly costs.”
Each room is equipped with a balcony
or patio, as well as a dishwasher, garbage disposal, oven and hrefrigerator, and
each building has its own laundry and mail facilities; some apartments even
have their own washers and dryers. Handicapped-accessible rooms are available,
as well as custom upgrades, which can include accent-painted walls and fully
furnished rooms.
In addition, Foxridge residents can
enjoy pet-friendly living, an open-parking policy, a fitness center, two junior
Olympic-sized pools, sheltered and convenient bus stops, courts for volleyball,
tennis and basketball and fields to play soccer, softball and baseball.
Residents can also take advantage of the clubhouses on-site available for
social events, as well as visit the residential pond and gazebo area for
outdoor grilling and picnics. Residents can make use of the bike path linking
to the Duck Pond on campus, are able to request the buildings in which they
would like to reside, and are wired for high-speed internet.
“We are currently upgrading from
Adelphia to Comcast high-speed internet which we can offer at a discounted
price,” Sink said. “But students can use whichever service they want to.
Residents can use Verizon, for example, and some can even choose to use
dial-up.”
The staff in the management office
work tirelessly to provide residents with the best living situations as
possible, including distributing a monthly newsletter, and holding programs
such as the largely-attended Bingo night, spaghetti dinners, car washes and
football tailgates.
“We like to mingle with residents as
much as we can,” Sink said. “We are trying to promote more of a community-type
atmosphere.”
The complex has received numerous
awards including being featured in the Best of Blacksburg multiple times as
well as the 2006 Superior Resident SatisFaction Award, based on a resident
survey completed by SatisfaFacts Research, LLC. Tech students appreciate the
efforts of the staff as well as Foxridge’s commitment to excellence.
“I love living in Foxridge,” said
sophomore marketing major Laurie Manning. “It’s not too far from campus, but
it’s completely different than living in the dorms. The staff is great and are
always willing to help, the parking lot is always open to my parents and friends
and the best part is, my puppy can stay with me in my room.”
Apartments are available on 10- and
12-month leases. The Foxridge website contains more information along with
interactive floor plans, the policy handbook, residential forms and a roommate
locator.
