A small breakdown of the numbers for next year’s ACC Coastal in terms of how many seniors will be leaving each program.

As you can see, the Hokies do not lose nearly as much as a program like Miami, who might be losing even more players due to an NCAA investigation.

The Hokies continually stockpile talent by utilizing the redshirt season on most of their players. Exceptions are made in the case of athletes like Tyrod Taylor or David Wilson, but generally even future-stars like Ryan Williams and Corey Moore are sat down a year for seasoning.

This story from ESPN The Magazine (must be Insider) in 2009 illustrates some of the benefits of redshirting players. Wake Forest under Jim Grobe, a good personal friend of Frank Beamer, employs the same strategy as the Hokies.

How much do you address your team about compliance at this point and did you address your players specifically about what happened at Miami?:

“During preseason we have what we call educational meetings every day and talk about different things in the program — what you can do and what you can’t do. I think you educate your kids and they know what’s right and wrong and they’re responsible for their actions.”
