Maroon 5 coming to Burruss

Virginia Tech Union, the Student Government Association and Hillel will present rock band Maroon 5 on Nov. 10 in Burruss Auditorium.

An e-mail with announcements from student organizations said tickets would cost $30 for Virginia Tech students. Public tickets will cost $40 tickets, with both going up by $5 on the day of the concerts. Tickets will be sold through UUSA.

The show will be at 7:30 p.m.

No announcement has been made as to the day the tickets will go on sale. Zc

Tech to co-sponsor symposium on Springsteen influence

Virginia Tech is teaming with Monmouth University and Penn State at Altoona to present a three day event exploring the cultural significance of rock musician Bruce Springsteen.

The symposium (click here to view the website), will take place at Monmouth University in Long Branch, NJ. Mark Bernhard, Tech’s director of continuing and professional education, is helping organize the event.

Tours of Spingsteen’s “stomping grounds” of Asbury Park and Freehold will be offered.

Musical performances will be included as part of the symposium. While Springsteen will not be performing, other Jersey Shore acts will. A university press release lists Boccigalupe, The Badboys as well as Joe Grushecky and The Houserockers as featured acts.

Registration is $345, but only $245 for students. Zc

Cowboy Junkies coming to Blacksburg

A little music news from the News Blog. I kept noticing Twitter posts this morning exulting that the Cowboy Junkies were coming to Blacksburg.

The alternative rock band with country twinges is indeed playing at the Lyric Theatre on October 15.

The band’s Web site says admission will be between $25-30.

The Lyric’s Web site says tickets will go on sale Sept. 3. Zc

B.B. King to perform on campus

Blues legend B.B. King will perfmorm at Virginia Tech as part of VTU’s 2009-10 Lively Arts Season.

The 84-year-old King will perform on Oct. 4. Tickets to the show cost $15 for Tech students, and $20 for faculty and staff. General admission will be $30.

Other announced acts performing as part of VTU’s programs are NBC’s Phenomenon winner Mike Super on Sept. 9, and the Golden Dragon Acrobats on Oct. 24.

There will also be a gospel themed concert on March 20, 2010.

Those who did not have season tickets last year can purchase season tickets beginning Aug. 6. Single ticket sales begin Sept. 11. Zc

The Lantern is for sale

The Lantern, a Blacksburg music venue and bar, is being shopped on Craig’s List.

As seen on this page, the owners are asking for $90,000 for the Draper Road location and are seeking a quick transaction. The venue has been open since July of 2008 and attracted many musical acts.

The venue has been closed since May, and is currently planning to reopen in August, but the sale may change plans.
