Lau and Rogers Disappointed with Low Turnouts

Hundreds of signs littered the yards, stacked public grass areas and even poured onto the street on Patrick Henry Drive at a polling center. Though as for voters, there were hardly any to be seen.

“I’m disappointed with the turn out,” said Town Council candidate Tom Rogers. “This building right here [the Recreation Center] can handle 3,000. We’ve only seen 800 so far. I’m hoping for a rush later on.”

Another local candidate, Frank Lau also had similar feelings. “It’s down about 30% for what I would have hoped for.”

An array of voters, from the college student age to senior citizens slowly began to sprinkle inside the polling center. With each new passerby sparked a chance for the candidates to sway another follower to their side. Each person was shoved with fliers from all sides.

One unique individual even posed the question, “Who are you? A democrat? If you are, you don’t have my vote.”

“It’s crazy how some people go about voting,” said Rogers. “There are all different types of people here, it’s our job as town council to learn how to communicate with all of them.”
