- Taco Bell commercial highlighting rambunctious seniors

Millions of viewers tuned in on Sunday night for the XLVII Super Bowl featuring the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers. While it was an extremely anticipated game, some viewers were just looking forward to the commercial breaks. It is known as when the “best commercials of the year” are streamed. This year, there were some of the best and some of the worst commercials.
Best of the Best:
Rated to be one of the best this year would be Taco Bell’s ‘Viva Young’. The ad stars a group of elderly citizens who do crazy and reckless activities comparable to that of a group of teenagers. The commercial ends with “Live Mas,” a company slogan, and the elderly heading back into their retirement home after a night of excitement. The commercial is funny, and bizarre, enough that it keeps viewers intrigued until the end.
Worst of the Worst:
Voted as one of the worst this year is the Pistachios ‘Gangnam Style’ ad. It features the pop singer PSY performing the Gangnam Style dance with back-up dancers dressed as pistachios. Due to the song being overplayed and over-rated (thought by many viewers), the commercial was not a hit this year. Pistachios have had clever ads in the past that make up for this, but they were never aired during the Super Bowl. This could potentially hurt their overall image, since the Super Bowl gets so many viewers.
Although this year had some of the best ads, there has been a theory that the stadium’s blackout in the third quarter was intentional in order to air more commercials. The more commercials that are played, the higher the revenue is. It seems extremely unlikely that producers would intentionally delay the game, but it did provide time for more hilarious commercials that were viewed by millions – 108 million that is.
